As I sit here and put this piece together I realize that change is bound to happen whether we are for it or against it. Most times we are against it as it affects our whirlwind, our day-to-day operations – our “norm”. Change doesn’t happen overnight, it takes work and it is NOT easy. However, after creating my innovation plan, flipped learning, I thought this was MY innovation to act upon and maybe partner teacher. Boy, was I wrong! Actually, throughout this course it has opened my eyes to the idea of sharing my plan with the entire campus. Recently, I've had a few different co-teachers in and out of my room helping out with my special education inclusion classes and each of them were in awe of the flipped classroom model. They asked lots of questions and are wanting to implement it in their classrooms and wish more teachers did this. They have been able to see the benefits of flipped learning first hand and the engaging classroom activities that we are able to do because of it. So why not, make my innovation plan go campus wide. I'm so excited to start this transformation on my campus! Throughout this class and the help of this book: The 4 Disciplines of Execution: Achieving Your Wildly Important Goals by Chris McChesney, Sean Covey, and Jim Huling I've created my wildly important goal (WIG) to share with my campus and I now feel that my change initiative is possible. Four Disciplines of Execution (4DX Plan)The 4DX plan focuses on the four disciplines of execution within the five stages of change. I’ve researched these concepts and created a poster to illustrate each discipline and each stage. The 4DX is a simple, repeatable, and proven formula used to execute change in the midst of the whirlwind of day-to-day tasks. Where the five stages of change focuses on the human behavior that leaders will face when introducing change. The four disciplines and the five stages are interchangeable, however you can’t do one without the other therefore they are both required to be successful in changing behavior within an organization. * Click on Images to enlarge. My 4DX Process for Implementing Flipped LearningBelow is my 4DX Plan to accompany my innovation plan, flipped learning, that I will be implementing on my campus come August. My plan is based off the book The 4 Disciplines of Execution: Achieving Your Wildly Important Goals that I'd highly encourage my team to read, maybe over the summer, as we venture through this change together. As with anything else, change is inevitable, so I expect my plan to change as it is executed and it moves through the five stages of change. I expect my team to sculpt my product so it can become ours not just mine. 4DX Plan vs. The Influencer ModelLast week, I spent many hours creating my influencer model. This model is to influence change within my school while using the six sources of influence. This was very helpful this week as I was creating the 4DX plan. I went back to the drawing board each step of the way. For example, when I had to write my WIG (Wildly Important Goal) I refered to my desired goal from the influencer model. As I was developing my lead measures I immediately looked at my vital behaviors. And again, when I was identifying key tasks I used the six sources of influence as this is key to attempting to change human behavior. These two models/plans go hand in hand as they are very similar. They are like two peas in a pod. The influencer model provides more of the how to make change happen through motivation and ability of personal, social and structural while 4DX keeps us focused on the changes. Both are important and allows for a higher rate of success when combined together. References:
