Who I am...I am a christian, a wife, a mother, an educator, and a defender of our country (U.S. Army Reserves). Life is full of great experiences and opportunities that we should endure.
Let me start with explaining how I am where I am. It all started by growing up as a military brat moving all of my life from one military installation to another. Having lived my entire life around the military I knew this was what I wanted for my future as well except for all the moving. Shortly after starting college full-time I enlisted in the Army Reserves, this provided me the stability I wanted and a means to help pay for school. My junior year, I signed a contract with Army ROTC and received a full-ride scholarship obligating me to serve my country for 6 years. Well, it has been almost 23 years now and I'm enjoying being a part of something bigger than myself and I have no plans of retiring anytime soon. I graduated from college with a business degree in marketing and advertising in which I worked in this field for a couple years before I adventured into teaching. Upon moving to Houston in 2002, I discovered that the state of Texas has an alternative certification program where I was able to change careers and became a teacher. YAY! This is my 11th year of teaching and I'm so thankful for taking the plunge. My first four years of teaching I taught 2nd and 3rd grade and then was afforded the opportunity to stay at home with my two boys, only committing to my military obligations. I returned to teaching, junior high math, when my oldest son started his sophomore year in high school. I really enjoy this age group and that I can focus on one subject, a subject that I love. My husband and I have been together for 28 years... yes I was like 10 years old. No just kidding, I was 17 when we met. He is an amazing husband and great father to our two boys. Our oldest son, Andy, is in college getting his degree in Mechanical Engineering and our youngest, Spencer, is a freshman in high school. Now, I've decided to return to college myself so I can further my studies in the digital world - a newly found passion since flipping my classroom in 2017. I'm getting my Masters Degree in Digital Learning and Leading at Lamar University and I'm loving every bit of it. I have to admit I was a little nervous but learning is something we never stop doing so getting back into the swing of it wasn't too difficult. Why didn't I do this when I was a stay at home mom though? I guess I like the challenge. |
