The topic of my Action Research Plan is to see the effectiveness of using a flipped classroom model within a junior high classroom (6-8 grade)?
II. What is the purpose of your study?
The purpose of this research is to show that using a flipped classroom model will increase teacher/student collaboration on math objectives that will increase scores within a junior high classroom. There are many objectives to teach in each grade level in junior high that a new objective is taught almost every other day.
III. What is your fundamental research question?
Will the flipped classroom increase student scores in junior high math classes?
IV. What is your research design?
I plan to follow a Triangular Mixed-Methods design. This design will focus on both types, quantitative and qualitative, providing me with optimal results.
A. QuantitativeMy question is based on increasing scores so I will analyze data from assessments to check for growth.
B. QualitativeI also want to know that having more collaboration time between myself and the students will increase their understanding.
V. What type of data will you collect?
I will be collecting both types of data, Quantitative and Qualitative data.
A. Quantitative DataTest Scores
B. Qualitative DataStudent Surveys
VI. What types of measurements will you use?
A. Quantitative DataTest Scores - Administer tests at the beginning, middle and end of year to check for growth
B. Qualitative DataStudent Surveys - Administer surveys to discover student perception at the beginning of the year and at the end of each Six Week Grading Period
VII. What is the focus of your literature review?
I will focus on data, quantitative and qualitative. I’ll research how junior high schools did with flipped classroom in their math classrooms based on their scores. I will also look at how students perceive flipped classroom and if it helped them understand math better using this concept.
