MDJH Classroom Adventures
MDJH and Texans Stats Challenge (Nov 2017)The Texans Stats Challenge is a FUN program created for 6th grade students to learn math through the game of football. The Houston Texans and Schlumberger created this program for teachers and students within the Houston area. McDonald Junior High 6th-Grade Math Teachers, KaTrisa Brown, Danielle Erickson, and myself rallied together to join this program so our students would see how math is used in the real world especially within professional sports. It was our 2nd year participating in this program and we were one of the schools selected to have a Texans representative, JJ Moses and a couple cheerleaders, Natalie and Gabby, visit our school to speak words of encouragement on how math plays a vital role in sports especially football. This was a great honor to have them at our school at for the students to hear from others, besides their teachers, on the importance of math within real world situations. After the event was over, I felt what an honor it was to be selected from hundreds of school I wrote the local news outlets with an article that I wrote to try and get our story published. We were fortunate that two local media outlets reached back out to me willing to publish our story... our kids deserve to be recognized for their hard work.

Veterans Day Choir Concert (Nov 2017)As a teacher and a veteran, I was asked for the third year to speak at our Veterans Day Choir Concert. It is an honor to speak in front of our students and parents to express what Veterans Day represents. I've served our country now for almost 23 years and I am very grateful that I get to share my experiences and opportunities with our youth. I also wear my battle dress uniform (BDU) to school on this day to represent the armed forces and to show our student population that they could always join the military as an option. It is something they can do full-time or part-time and it is a great way to help pay for college, to travel the world, and to begin their adult lives after they graduate. It is an honor to do this every year and to see the interest and excitement our students have.
